Volunteering with us

Why we need your help

As a charity we offer free support to Carers and those living with long term health conditions countywide and volunteers are an integral part of this support.

Volunteers assist staff in making our support welcoming to all, they are actively involved in sessions, allowing staff greater opportunities to provide the level of support Carers need.

Volunteers help us to connect with harder to reach communities. Whether it's communities in rural locations,  Global Ethnic Majority communities, or LGBQT+ communities and others.

Volunteers work collaboratively with staff to shape our services to ensure they meet the needs of those we support. Volunteers have the opportunity to help develop new and exciting bespoke projects too!

Many of the Carers we support are under 25 years. We have a dedicated team supporting Carers as young as 6 years old. Volunteering with Young Carers brings great rewards, providing many amazing, selfless youngsters a few hours to be free of their caring responsibilities. Volunteers support staff during days out; support sessions based on emotional wellbeing and coping strategies; arts & crafts, games nights, book clubs and online gaming.

This WordCloud was created by our team of volunteers & expresses - in their words - what they get out of volunteering.

“It revives me”

"I enjoy the friendships I make, it gives me a reason to go out”

“I always learn something”

Volunteers are supported by a member of staff and the volunteer manager, and are offered training opportunities and regular supervision. Wellness plans and risk assessments provide an opportunity to ensure we provide the right support for you.

Expenses (mileage and parking) are reimbursed.

What skills will you need?

Northamptonshire Carers values lived experience and actively welcome volunteers who may not have a health or social care background.

Our volunteers are:

kind

empathetic with active listening skills

have a passion to make a difference.

All volunteers are subject to DBS and referencing checks
