Carers Assessments Carers Assessments You may have come across the term Carer’s Assessment in the media or been encouraged to have one by a doctor, social worker, or another professional. But what does it actually mean? A Carer’s Assessment is not about evaluating how well you look after your loved one or judging you as a spouse, parent, child, or friend. It’s about you—your needs, your wellbeing, and the impact caring has on your everyday life. Under the Care Act 2014, Carers are entitled to an assessment that looks at how your caring responsibilities affect different areas of your life. This includes: Your caring role and its impact on your wellbeing Your physical, mental, and emotional health Your feelings about caring and the choices you want to make Work, education, training, and leisure activities Your relationships, social life, and personal goals Your home environment, equipment, and assistive technology Planning and support for emergencies A Carer’s Assessment is an opportunity to talk about what you need so you can continue caring while maintaining your own health and quality of life. Northamptonshire Carers are commissioned by both North and West Northamptonshire Councils to carry out Carer’s Assessments for anyone who supports someone living in Northamptonshire.
