About carers Carer engagement 2020 Carers Awards Northamptonshire Carers are pleased to announce the opening of the 2020 Carer Awards for nominations. There are 70,000 unpaid carers in Northamptonshire all of which demonstrate amazing levels of dedication, love and support for friends and relatives with a disability, special needs, or a mental health condition. Every year, the Carers Awards allows us to recognise and thank Carers for all they do. We are asking you to nominate someone who you feel has gone above and beyond to make an extra special difference. The awards were a great success and we were absolutely thrilled that so many people put forward nominations. Carers do a vital job and these awards help raise their profile and awareness of the amazing work these people do, often in extremely challenging circumstances. While we have only awarded some of the nominees with awards, it must be known that all carers are winners and the work they do for others is extremely valuable. Mark Major, Chief Executive Officer of Northamptonshire Carers discussing the 2019 ceremony. 2020 has been a difficult year for all of us but especially carers. Coronavirus and the subsequent lock-down has affected carers more than most with many emotional calls to our Carers Support Line. Examples include, shielding alongside a loved one in an at risk group, shortages of essential food and supplies, financial difficulties and any respite being put on hold. In previous years the Carers Awards ceremony has taken place in Barton Hall, Kettering however with coronavirus and social distancing in mind, we will be instead meeting virtually but the ceremony will still be uplifting and a showcase for the amazing differences carers make to the community. The categories for nominations are: Jane Roebuck Carer of the Year (18+) Young Carer of the Year (under 18) Shining Star (a professional, volunteer or team who have gone that extra mile to support carers i.e. teachers, social workers, volunteers etc) Working Carer of the Year (balancing unpaid caring role with paid employment) Investing in Carers accreditation certificates will also be awarded to GP surgeries and employers who have demonstrated a commitment to support carers. To nominate, simply complete this online form. Please contact us if you have any queries or if you are interested in sponsoring an award.
