We have been approached by local carer Julie Trew to share a petition regarding social care funding that can be debated in Parliament if she received 100,000 signatures.

This is based on Julie’s experience as a carer however you may wish to sign if you agree.

My Experience of Caring and the Care System

My name is Julie Trew. I am the founder of WeAllCareUK

After 50 years of marriage, I woke up one morning to find I was a carer and my life had changed for ever. Many people will have had similar experiences.

You can choose whether or not to have a new car, holiday or new dress but should someone need care there is no choice.

Care has to be given.

Six years have passed and I can say this has been my most difficult experience I have ever faced.

It is not so much because of the care needs of my husband and brother-in-law but more the challenges of using the social care system to enable them to live their lives and me to live mine.

What you most want is understanding and a care system that supports the needs of both those needing care and the carer.

Care should be a fundamental right.

I know that I would not have got through these six years without the help of family and friends to support me and fill the gaps left in our care system. Not everyone has that resource to call on.  Only with their help have I been able to struggle through and finally manage to also find a life for me, which makes me better able to support my husband and his brother in their life needs.

Although I wish it would end, I do not want it to as that would mean my loved ones are no longer with me.

My experience over the last six years and the difficulties I have encountered along the way have made me determined to help bring about change for both those who need care and the care agency staff who give the care.

The care system is in crisis and urgently needs addressing now.

Please sign my petition to parliament.

PROVIDING EMERGENCY FUNDING TO LOCAL AUTHORITIES TO IMPROVE SOCIAL CARE and ensure provision of social care does not get worse. This will allow time to take the necessary actions to improve social care in the longer term.

At 100,000 signatures, this petition will be considered for debate in Parliament.
